Meet our award-winning trainers.

David Strafford TechIOSH

David Strafford is an experienced event safety professional with over 25 years’ of industry experience across live events, festivals, broadcast productions and large-scale public events. He is a Technical Member of IOSH and holds a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety with distinction. David designs and delivers IOSH-approved training, including his bespoke Working Safely at Events course, supporting organisations to improve legal compliance, risk assessment and safe systems of work within complex event environments.

David works as an event safety consultant for LS Events on the Formula E London E-Prix, contributing to risk planning and operational safety within a high-risk, major event setting. He has also acted as a Safety Officer at music festivals and on BBC and CBBC productions, bringing practical, front-line experience of event safety management to the training courses.

Alongside his safety training and consultancy, David co-founded Hopper Events Ltd and is an inspirational and award-winning higher education lecturer, teaching event, business and hospitality management internationally.

Mark Norman TechIOSH

Mark Norman has over 25 years’ experience in the events industry, spanning everything from running live music venues to delivering major international sporting events. Over the past decade, his work has focused heavily on event safety leadership and training, as a Technical Member of IOSH, on events such as the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, the Tour de France, the UEFA Champions League Final 2024, and the FIA Formula E World Championship. Mark and holds a NEBOSH General Certificate in Occupational Health & Safety.

Alongside his industry work, Mark has nearly 15 years’ experience teaching health and safety within event management in higher education, combining practical delivery with academic insight to help write and deliver an IOSH-tailored event safety course.

He is currently completing his PhD, further strengthening the evidence-based approach he brings to safety training.
